Classroom Update
Math - In math this week, we continued working with fractions. Our focus this week was comparing three or four fractions and putting them in order from smallest to largest. Students used fraction strips and circles to compare the sizes so they could be put in order.
Home Practise: Students can work on multiplication and division facts to increase speed and accuracy. They are encouraged to quickly review some that they already know and spend more time with facts they find more challenging.
Language Arts - We continued reading Ollie's Odyssey. Students began creating storymaps of Ollie or Billy's "odyssey". In language arts we also focused on homophones this week. Many words in English sound the same but are spelled and mean different things "weak / week", "their / there / they're" etc.
Science - In science this week, we focused on coding. We talked a little about what some of the very first codes looked like for computers. We also spoke about how our robots will only do what we program them to do next week.
Social Studies - Students continued working on their are slideshow about how they fit into Alberta. The focus this week was on learning about 3 kinds of distinct communities in Alberta. Students researched an Indigenous, Metis and Francophone community.
