Classroom Update
Math - In math this week, we have been reviewing place value up to and including the ten thousands place. We have also been reviewing and practising our skip counting by 2,3,5,10.
Home Practise: It would be great to review addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers. For example 84 + 49 or 93 - 27. A few questions after school to solidify understanding will support the students when we start using larger numbers.
Language Arts - Word Work focused on building and understanding compound words. This week students were given a word like light and then had to think about compound words. They came up with words like sunlight and lightbulb. In writing, we did a "Would you rather...". We had to choose between flying and invisibility and then think of 3 reasons why we would choose that one. Then we wrote a 5 sentence paragraph justifying our choice. We also went to the library for the first time. Before we went, we talked about choosing books that are challenging for us. At school, we don't want to always choose easy books.
Science - We continued to explore how we use the land and started to talk about some of the beautiful and special places we have visited in Alberta, B.C., and Saskatchewan.
Social Studies - In grade 3, we explore Alberta today and through history. As our beginning this week, we looked at where Alberta is in Canada.
Our bat art for our read aloud book "Silverwing".
