Classroom Update

Math -  We continued exploring transformations this week.  This week we focused on reflections. A reflection is a shape/picture that is flipped over a reflection line.  We also continued to solve word problems and work on telling time.

Home Practise:   Students can work on multiplication and division facts to increase speed and accuracy.  They are encouraged to quickly review some that they already know and spend more time with facts they find more challenging.  Students should also feel confident with multi-digit subtraction at this point of grade 3.

Language Arts - We continued to work on poetry this week.  We have all written a limerick that we are now decorating.  Some students even performed their limerick for the class.  We also completed a short writing assignment.  Students were given 30 minutes of writing time to start a story and prove all of the things they can do (capitals, punctuation, correct spelling, complex sentences etc.)

Science - Our focus continued to be on food chains / food webs.  We started a project about a chosen ecosystem and the food chain / web that exists there.  Some of the choices were rainforest, ocean, savannah, mountain.  Students began representing their ecosystem food chain on a poster.

Social Studies - Students continued to explore the 3 levels of government and what responsibilities each level has.

*PREDATOR / PREY GAME - We were pretty tired after swimming so did not get outside to play our game.  Depending on the weather next week, we are planning on playing our game at a different park close to the school Monday afternoon.   The park we are planning on visiting is the princess / pirate park which gives us opportunities to use the trees and equipment as part of our game.

On Wednesday, June 2, we will be walking to Fish Creek Park for a morning of Indigenous teachings and exploration.
